A bridge between two eras of artisanal craft
The new Singer Reimagined Heritage Collection breathes new life into a legend of chronograph timekeeping: the mighty Valjoux 236, a hand-wound, column-wheel actuated chronograph movement from 1974. Thusly, the SR601 Chronograph isn’t just another heritage-inspired release — it’s an actual piece of watchmaking history, with each reference powered by a fully refurbished and thoughtfully preserved new-old-stock (NOS) Valijoux 236 movement, reimagined for today’s collector in keeping with the Singer mission. And though Restored, Singer brings the past into the present, ensuring that these icons of horology continue to be worn, admired, and cherished for generations to come.
This Heritage Collection Chronograph seamlessly balances vintage inspiration with modern-day precision. Encased in a refined 38.8mm stainless steel case with a sunray satin finish and mirror-polished chamfers, it has been thoughtfully designed to seamlessly bridge past and present. Furthermore, it features Singer’s signature design elements, including a toothed golden flange, a richly lacquered dial, and applied indices that evoke timeless elegance.
The presentation is completed with a glassbox sapphire crystal with double anti-reflective coating to enhance visibility, while the sapphire exhibition caseback reveals the Valijoux 236 in all its fully restored glory.
Unique to the SR601, this movement showcases exquisite finishing, including frosted bridges and plates with hand-polished chamfers and the signature Restored by Singer engraving. The rhodium-plated stainless steel components are horizontally brushed individually to guarantee the 3-9 alignment. All screws are hand polished.
For collectors and enthusiasts, the term ‘vintage movement’ carries an air of reverence. Some calibers transcend their mechanical purpose and become icons of an era — historical artifacts that tell the story of watchmaking’s golden age. The Valjoux 236 is one such calibre. More than a movement, it represents a bridge between past mastery and contemporary craftsmanship.
